What are the best used bookstores in HRM?

books Sep 28, 2018

Halifax has lost several used bookstores over the past few years, but there are some stalwart shops that continue to deliver the old used bookstore experience.

JW Doull Booksellers

This well-knowd bookshop moved to Main Street in Dartmouth in about 2014. Jam-packed with stock, it is an afternoon adventure.

Dust Jacket Books

After the death of the owner in winter 2018, this bookshop has moved from the basement of the Maritime Centre to the Brewery Market, where they anticipate many more years of bookselling.

Schooner Books

Book connoisseurs will have a blast digging through the selection of rare and used reads at Schooner Books. Open since 1975, the store has a special interest in books on the Atlantic provinces, early Canadiana, Canadian Art, and Canadian Military.

Trident Cafe and Bookseller is a nice combination of a cafe with a small, well-curated selection of books. The coffee is roasted on-site and is top-notch.

Of course, I am biased toward the gem in St. Margaret's Bay: otis & clementine's. Coffee, books, book clubs for adults and kids, writing programs, open mic nights Saturday evenings. This spot is a great way to spend an afternoon. Open at 8am for your coffee meetings.
